The bulk of college students have at least a passing interest in how much money they will make in their chosen career compared to how much the training costs. The return on investment (ROI) can be staggeringly low, as it is with my own profession.
A web site dedicated to earnings (here) has ranked the degrees with the worst ROI and communications--which leads people to become newsies--is a notable No. 1.
A news reporter by this site's estimation earns $37,000 a year and his return on private college tuition investment is 17 percent. If he went to public school, the return is 58 percent. You'll have to be happy with the work, because paying off college could take most of your career.
The other degrees, in order (worst to a little better) are psychology, nutrition, hospitality/tourism, theology/religious studies, education, fine arts and sociology.
