Rep Alan Grayson (D-Florida) points to “a number of public reports that you can smell alcohol on their breath as they’re voting gleefully to shut down the government and create chaos.” Grayson says he has seen it and smelled it. “Many of them seem loaded."
Grayson would not name names (he doesn't "really feel like getting that personal with people"), but said, “it’s the usual suspects.” Among those would likely be Speaker John Boehner, who had no comment, but has a reputation as a tippler of some note.
A reporter for Politico, Ginger Gibson, tweeted over the weekend that she could “smell the booze wafting from members as they walk off the floor.” Grayson calls the drunkenness "a problem all year long ... and it’s making them violent and abusive towards America.”
Even right-winger Matt Drudge reported (here), "Accusations of drinking among House Republicans during late-night debates spread like wildfire this weekend as they brought the government ever closer to a shutdown."
