British-born, Hollins University-educated producer-director George Butler is the subject of a film festival scheduled Jan. 10-12 at Hollins and the Grandin Theatre in Roanoke. Butler is the producer of notable documentaries, including his first "Pumping Iron" from 1977, which has become something of a cult classic.
He has produced/direct/written nine major pieces since graduating in 1968 from the Hollins graduate program in creative writing. The documentaries scheduled for the festival include "Pumping Iron" (Jan. 1o), "Pumping Iron II" (Jan. 11), "The Good Fight" (Jan. 11) and "Roving Mars" (Jan. 12) all at Hollins in addition to "The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition" (Jan. 12) at the Grandin.
It's free and open to the public.
