Supreme Court Approval Rating Takes a Deep Dip

The stacking of the U.S. Supreme Court with right-wing ideologues has resulted in some startling and unsettling new findings, according to a New York Times Poll. Here's the line from the story that makes me want to sit down, "Just one in eight Americans said the justices decided cases based only on legal analysis."

And there's ample evidence of that, most strikingly the Bush v. Gore case in 2000 which gave us our worst president instead of a man who likely would have been one of our best in a decision that was not the court's to make. It was a blatant political maneuver engineered by the Republican Party. The other is the more recent and equally outrageous Citizens United case which opened political campaign funding to corporate "people" and changed the entire landscape of democracy. Voting now is different than voting was before the case, before the Supremes gave corporations the same level of humanity it gives you.

Other findings include that just 44 percent of Americans approve of the job the Supreme Court is doing and one would have to surmise they're all Republicans. That's a steep fall from 66 percent in the 1980s and 50 percent in 2000.
