Gallop Poll gives a striking example of how Americans are moving rapidly toward the political edges and away from the middle. A group was asked about its belief in evolution and while it is startling that 46 percent of us believe in creationism--meaning god created us just as we are--it is even more striking that the evolution of the thought has scampered quickly away from the moderate position that people evolved, but god had a hand in it.
Of the extremes, we have the 46 percent mentioned above, vs. the 15 percent that believes it's all random. There remains 32 percent in the middle. Problem here is that both extremes have increased by 2 percent over 30 years while those believing in theistic evolution has decreased 6 percent.
