'Overnight Sensations' Is Saturday; It's Free and It's Cool

Todd Ristau draws players out of a hat.
Tomorrow night at Hollins University's Little Theatre we'll put on a bunch of 10-minute plays in marvy air conditioned comfort for your pleasure and it won't cost you a dime. It's called "Overnight Sensations" because six plays are created overnight.

About 40 local "actors" (like me, which is why the quote marks), six writers, six directors and Todd Ristau will get together tonight to pick sides, assign topics and write plays overnight in order to rehearse and produce them tomorrow.

It's always a hoot. I've been in two of them and thoroughly enjoyed each. I think the audience liked seeing people who are not often associated with the stage side of theater taking a turn at the boards--and often looking like idiots, if I may speak personally.

In the past, this has been presented at Mill Mountain Theatre and has been a fund-raiser. MMT is closed, so Hollins took it on--with Ristau guiding it--and the show goes on promptly at 8 p.m. Saturday. Come join us. You'll get a laugh, at the very least and you'll be cool in more ways than one.
