Sex and the Repubs: More Nonsense Legislation

Under the "ignorance is bliss" category today comes this:

"The [Republican-dominated] Utah state Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would allow schools to drop sex education, prohibit instruction on how to use contraception, and prohibit discussion of homosexuality in class, The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

"The bill lifts the current requirement that all public schools must teach sex ed in grades 8 through 12. Districts would decide whether to offer sex ed classes that teach an abstinence-only curriculum, or not offer the course at all."

  1. And, our Govenor signed today HB462 into law that requires a totally non medically necessary procedure plus a 24 hour waiting period to get an abortion. This obstructs women's access to healthcare and places an undue burden on women and the medical profession. It is shameful.

  2. Tyler: This also sets a disturbing precedent wherein the government is dictating medical procedures. Is this the precursor to "death squads" the right wingers have been worried about--from the left?
