Shooting Begins in Giles County on David Baldacci Movie; Ellen Burstyn Stars

Ellen Burstyn
Shooting has begun in Giles for Life Out Loud Films’ “Wish You Well” from the David Baldacci novel of recent vintage. The cast is led by Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn (“Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”) and features director Darnell Martin (“I Like It Like That” and “Cadillac Records”).

Baldacci lives at Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke.

Other notables in the cast are Josh Lucas (“Sweet Home Alabama”), Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Down”),  Ned Bellamy (“Being John Malkovich”), Laura Fraser (“Breaking Bad”), Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick (“Moonrise Kingdom”), and introduces Virginia native JP Vanderloo as Oz.

Six-time Oscar nominee Ellen Burstyn received nominations for “The Last Picture Show,” “The Exorcist,” “Same Time Next Year,” “Resurrection” and “Requiem for a Dream.” She has won a Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe.  Most recently, she starred in “Big Love” and “Political Animals.”

“Wish You Well” is a coming-of-age story set in the 1940s. After a family tragedy, a young girl moves from New York with her younger brother to live with their great-grandmother on a Virginia farm and comes closer to understanding the land and roots that inspired her father’s writings while discovering herself, the love of family and the power of truly believing.

The film is a collaboration between Life Out Loud Films, Baldacci Entertainment and Copper Beech Productions. Life Out Loud Films is headed by Sarah Elizabeth Timmins, who did “Lake Effects” last year at Smith Mountain Lake. Visit here for updates on the movie.

  1. Wiki claims David Baldacci lives in Vienna, Va - did you mean he is living down here during shooting? Does wiki have it wrong?

  4. I LOVE his books and it would be smart to spell Baldacci's name right; "Balcacci lives at Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke."

  5. My understanding is he has a home at SML. Patami: Baldacci is spelled correctly throughout, with the exception of a missed stroke in the second reference. It happens. Hope it never happens to you and, obviously, it never has.
