Here's a kind of last-ditch job for my basil patch for the summer and I have to deem it a failure. I cut down a lot of basil, some of which had gone to seed, and discovered why people don't eat it this way. I put together this batch of pesto from a big basil bush and when I tasted it, I wanted to urp. Harsh, sharp and bitter. No more gone-to-seed basil for moi. Too bad, too. This was a fine crop with truly sweet leaves in its prime.
