Council Considering Three Countryside Plans

As mentioned in a post last week (here), Roanoke City Council is considering some concrete proposals for the future use of Countryside Golf Course property. Council met in a closed session yesterday to consider the following:

• Northwest Recreation Club and Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Incorporated: Develop property as a recreational sports complex for soccer and indoor tennis, basketball, and volleyball programs.
• Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op: Develop property as a diversified urban farm operation.
• L&M Properties: Rehabilitate the former tennis facility for an indoor tennis facility.

A release from the city noted, "While all three letters of interest were consistent with the Countryside Master Plan, Council has advised at this time to move forward with discussions and public involvement with the proposed concepts received from the Northwest Recreation Club and Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer, and Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op since they were the most responsive to the broad goals and objectives of the plan."
