Happy Strikers on the Line at Verizon

These cheerful strikers enjoyed the lovely weather and friendly passersby at the Verizon facility on Airport Road today, but one suspects their mood won't remain buoyant long if the temperatures continue into the 90s and the strike settles in for a while. The workers are striking, at least partly, because they want job security, something that is increasingly scarce in this Republican country.

As these middle income people fight for their jobs and their lifestyles, you might want to note this: 1,500 millionaires in the U.S. paid no income tax last year. Not a penny. One would suspect most were Republicans, who have been fighting as hard as the labor unions, but for a different outcome: the rich don't pay taxes.
