'Something Amazing Is Happening' in Salem

Seems there’s a buzz that’s increasing in intensity today over in Salem because some voters are smelling an upset. Carter Turner, who is challenging long-time incumbent Morgan Griffith for his seat in the General Assembly has apparently struck a nerve among voters and they're starting to support him with their words and their dollars.

This came around noon from one of my buds: "Something really amazing is happening at the Turner for Delegate campaign! The money has been pouring in over the last 72 hours. Seriously, people really think he can win. [Turner was] just able to double [his] TV and radio [time] between now and election day. He'll be on Ch. 10, Ch. 7, Comcast, WFIR, Q99 and a few other radio stations. Anything [that can be done] to encourage people to get out and vote would be wonderful. Working on this momentum ... closing the gap ...”

If you want to take part in this surge, go here. You can give money and support at Carter Turner's Web site.

  2. SalRepub: It is not as farfetched as believing Morgan Griffith is a competent delegate.

  3. Having not even heard of this candidate before, since Salem no longer is my district, I was amazed to hear him in his ad, attack his opponent for not raising taxes. Simply befuddling.

  4. Neal: Not all tax increases are equal. Some are absolutely essential, especially in a state where taxes have been artificially and foolishly low for many years (including on tobacco, which should be taxed out of existence). I realize that the anti-tax hysteria has effectively cut off debate on this, but wait until a bridge falls on your family and then complain. Dan

  5. Carter Turner is a good man who is running a strong campaign. He's knocking on doors (again) today and working hard.

By the way, in case anyone around here is wondering, Carter's Mother supports him just like Mrs. Griffith is in support of her boy...

In 20 years of watching political races I have never seen a candidate use his own mother in a campaign...amazing...

  6. Griffith has been using his mother for years because without her, there is no Griffith. She is beloved. He is tolerated because he's her son. Explaining lineage is befuddling.

  7. Mr. Smith, the comment "He is tolerated because he's her son. Explaining lineage is befuddling." shows just how much you know about Salem. Yes, there are some who do not support Morgan, but trust me, he is way more than tolerated.
