I hope you all will join me this week at the Hollins University production of the marvelous "9 to 5," the 1970s Dolly Parton movie that brought us a lot of good music and a funny look at the glass ceiling. Hollins' Ernie Zulia is leading the charge again with this production and my guess is that it'll be another highwater mark in Roanoke theater ... something Hollins Theater knows all about, since it is the standard in this region.
Here's the press release:
Direct
from Broadway, this hilarious new musical is based on the blockbuster
hit movie and features a high-energy score by the inimitable Dolly
Parton. It tells the story of three female coworkers pushed to the
boiling point by their boss, provoking them to concoct a plan to get
even with "the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot."
When
these unlikely friends conspire to take control of their company, they
learn there is nothing they can't do-even in a man's world. Set against
the backdrop of the feminist movement in the late 1970s, 9 to 5: The musical is about teaming up and taking care of business.
