Roanoke Realtor Lee Mastin Dies

Lee Mastin
My old buddy Lee Mastin, a long-time Roanoke Realtor and a genuinely good guy, died last night. Lee had been fighting cancer for some time and when I photographed him a couple of months ago for a story that was to run in our magazine, he was thoroughly chipper and optimistic about his long-term chances.

Lee was one of the founders more than 40 years of MKB Realtors (Mastin, Kirkland, Bowling originally) and I bought or sold about six houses using his services. He was always straight with me, honest and he worked the sales as hard as you'd expect him to work a $1 million home.

Lee, who was short, was a sprinter at the University of Virginia in the late '50s or early '60s and always pointed out that Sonny Randle--the famous football player--was a sprinter on the same team and that Randle was faster, despite being football size. He'd laugh that big hearty laugh with the story.

Lee laughed a lot and lived well. I think a lot of us will miss him.

  3. I worked at MKB REALTORS for 2 1/2 years and was priviledged to talk to Mr. Mastin on several occasions. He was always "chipper" as you said. Smart, down-to-earth and willing to share his vast supply of knowledge. He will definitely be missed.
