Photo Essay: A Day for Strawberries

David Battle and Akeshia Angle dig into the strawberry shortcake.
Fashionistas in search of strawberries.
Strawberry is as strawberry is.
This way to the food.
Getting the treats ready.
Dipping strawberries in chocolate. How good is that?
Line forms to the rear.
The annual Community School Strawberry Festival was in full swing on Roanoke City Market today. The festival has changed a lot from the days when parents made shortcake, picked berries and put it all together. Not it's so large, that is no longer possible, but nobody seemed to complain, especially those whose wait was over and the shortcake was in hand.

  1. The parents don't pick the berries anymore, but they still make the shortcakes and put it all together. It's quite an amazing community effort.
