Greenway Bridge's Footers in Place

The new greenway bridge's footers are in place and completion is expected in September.^

The greenway through Wasena Park in Roanoke was packed with walkers (including a group of hikers and bikers as the new low water bridge opened it for through traffic once again after several months of being split in two pieces.

It is now a five mile walk, run or bike ride from the parking lot in Wasena to the water treatment plant--without interruption and it's only going to get better.

The photo here is of the footers being laid for the bridge crossing the Roanoke River and connecting with the next portion of the greenway, which had been a trailer park for many years. This one won't be ready before September, city officials say, but if their promise is as good as it has been for the new bridge, you can count on it.

  1. Great news, Dan. I really appreciate your greenway updates. I really look forward to the day when I can ride out to Green Ridge Park from Wasena, and I hope that a possible use for the old transportation museum near the skatepark could be home to a bike rental and restaurant.

  2. Tom: That's a great idea for the old museum, which really needs a job.
