No, this is not a picture of a Roanoke precinct. It is an election where people cared.^ They're not exactly lined up down the block for the Roanoke City Democratic Party's primary today. I went by Patrick Henry High School about 9:30 this a.m. to vote and was the fifth voter of the day.
I returned to our offices in the Jefferson Center--also a polling place right across the hall from us--at 1 p.m. and ducked my head to see how many had voted. The three bored people sitting there waiting for voters smiled. A woman in very large glasses said, "Ten." That's 2.5 times the number of candidates.
