Even as we learn that young college graduates are moving home in record numbers and can’t find jobs (here), a California Republican Congressman is looking to cut funding for 43 education programs that would help prepare students for college (here).
Young adult consulting company Twentysomething Inc. recently reported that 85 percent of the 2011 college graduating class will move back home and that this class’ debt has reached historic levels, an average of $27,000.
A Northeastern University economics professor’s study reveals that 50 percent of college graduates under the age of 25 are either without jobs or are underemployed and a Reuters study puts those between 18 and 29 in similar circumstances at 37 percent, highest in 30 years.
So, how do Republicans want to fix that problem? Cut the budget. Dull-eyed California Congressman Duncan Hunter wants to slash and burn a whole wad of programs, many of which were designed to help poor students, a frequent target of the GOP.
