Ginger Mumpower Considering Run in 8th District

It's looking like my buddy Ginger Mumpower will make a run for the General Assembly seat vacated by the reprehensible Morgan Griffith, the 8th District. She'd run as a Democrat against Greg Habeeb, a far right Republican (is there any other kind these days?) whose abortion absolutism could cost him even in nutcase Salem.

Ginger is a pretty, cultured woman with a tough-as-nails country background who, I suspect, has the brass and intelligence to go toe-to-toe with any Repub and especially one whose views are as far out of the mainstream as the one she'll be facing. Ginger is a successful business owner: she was the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Person of the Year at one point.

I look forward to this race. Ginger's a dandy who's accustomed to succeeding. She's going up against a lawyer whose arguments are based in law and not truth--and there's a huge difference.

  1. When the VA General Assembly takes up Rowe v Wade then your argument might be valid. Until then why don't we focus on policies that matter like the economy.

  2. No, all republicans are NOT far right. I'm really surprised you said that out loud!

  3. Limiting women's health has always been the priority of the Repubs in Va. They pass laws over and over again, knowing the courts will immediately reverse. Tell Ginger I am in, and I'll tell Cabell. Get yourself some longtime filmmaking power with me. I'll be attending the economic meeting on Kirk Ave. Thursday.

  5. You Liberals just don't get it, what the hell do you think happened two weeks ago across this country, guess Nutcase Salem get's it. Dan, keep up the rhetoric....you will surley help her cause.

  6. Dan Smith...never met a Democrat he did not love. Always to the left of Lenin, Stalin and the rest.

  7. Salem doesn't have anything to do with a GOP landslide. Nobody in Salem, including Griffith himself, were allowed to vote on the election in the 9th. How does the coal industry of Dickenson County and Tazewell have any effect on Salem's economic future? Griffith was installed in office by coal owners. Unless Griffith brings the intermodal port to West Butt South Salem. Be ready for a shower of cinders on your porches and laundry lines. Ask your elders. They will confirm the black rain of yesteryears. That's progress for you Salemites. Back to the bad old days.

  9. Has Ginger announced that she is running? She would be a great candidate and a great delegate. We need more small business owners and fewer lawyers in Richmond. We would be lucky to have an intelligent, accomplished, insightful business leader such as her as our delegate.

  10. Ginger would definitely be a great candidate - couldn't agree more about focusing on small business. I see the GOP in Virginia promising help to small businesses all the time but when you look a little deeper you see that the huge companies are the only one that reap benefits.

  11. Beverly,

Actually, no, ma'am, not all Repubs are far right. I counted seven that aren't (including that lovely person person who kept her seat from Alaska--the anti-Palin).

  12. Funny how the lefties who responded seem to be interested in the issue and the righties seem to be interested in killing or at least insulting me. And I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT, dammit! NOT, NOT, NOT. Get it? NOT.
