Gratitude: The Blog

That's me writing this blog post. My grandgirl Madeline shot the pix.
Today, I'm grateful for:

Web logs. That's "blogs," and most specifically fromtheeditr.blogspot.com, which you are reading.

I've been doing this for several years, have posted nearly 4,000 times (on four different blogs, 3,000 of them here) and have thoroughly enjoyed the process and the result.

I am a natural essayist and this is the nearly perfect published essay form. The writer is in almost complete control of the product, which can be both good and bad, but it certainly represents us as we are--typos and all. I've had to publicly apologize for what has been written here and I have received thank you messages from many people for what has been written.

The number of readers I've reached has passed 1.5 million on this blog alone and averages about 18,000 hits a month. There's a level of gratification in those numbers, which are not at all the result of a large institution (newspaper, TV station, etc.) promoting the it. This is all done the hard way, one reader at a time over several years.

Thank you for reading and thank whoever invented this form for inventing it. It is a joy for me and a record for my family ... a legacy, if you will.
