Another Excellent Candidate for Public Office

Mike was our Contributor of the Year at FRONT last year.
My friend Mike Miller, who is likely one of the two or three smartest men I know (and in the Top 20 when you figure in the women) is yet another strong voice for sanity who is standing for election this season. He's running for the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.

I'm quite surprised that he John Williamson and Michael Abraham are all entering politics (two Democrats, one Republican) at this stage of their lives, but it also shows just where we are with the radicals finally pushing some sensible people into live action.

Mike, whose background is technology and economic development, wrote for us when I was with FRONT (and still does, actually) and taught writing classes for the Roanoke Regional Writers Conference, which I founded six years ago. There's nothing he doesn't do well and his voice of moderation makes some of us sound like screaming commies or right-wing nutbags. Mike's run for the board of Supervisors--like John's for Botetourt Supervisors and Michael's for the General Assembly--leaves me in a quandary because I can't vote for any of them. But I wish I could. Mike will, I think, serve with distinction.
