Red Staters Just Love That Porn

Oh, my, this one's just too delicious to pass up. Even as Rush Limbaugh ("Sure, I want Obama to fail") and Ann Coulter (" What, you're not allowed to cite Mein Kampf? Is that the new rule?") regale CPAC (the conservatives' registered political mob) convention with declarations so outrageous that even the red meat crowd cringes, we get word of yet another inconsistency. This one has to be beyond embarrassing, since so much of the religious right's argument hinges on sex:

Of the top 10 purchasers of online pornography last year, by state, eight voted for McCain in 2008.

This comes on the heels of revelations that abortion goes up during Republican administrtions (substantially, I might ad, since poverty increases accordingly) ad that Sarah Palin is tied for third with Ron Paul in a straw poll of 2012 presidential candidates (that last point has nothing to do with anything, but it's a Fun Factoid).

The porn poll is reported today by ABCNews and comes from data secured from credit card receipts, collected by Benjamin Edelman of Harvard Business School. Utah, home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, leads the nation with 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1,000 home broadband users, the survey says. Montana's last. Doesn't say where Virginia is, but the Old Dominion has become a blue state, so I'd guess it's pretty low.

And how about this one? Of "27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages" there were "11 percent more porn subscribers than [in] states hat don't explicitly restrict gay marriage."
